Summer of Fun and Inspiration
This summer has felt like a whirlwind for SDP, and for lots of good reasons. We've been busy playing in our hometown and traveling all around Wyoming and Montana to some amazing festivals, sharing the stage with a slew of incredible bands that have really pushed us to GO FOR IT. Playing in a band means you don't get to see as much music as you would like (because you always have a gig!), so on nights when we get to share the bill with bands like Justin Townes Earle, The Band of Heathens and Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers we truly get to put our fan hats back on. We also get to feel inspired by these groups and take away bits and pieces of what makes a live show great. And all of the bands I mentioned are masters at that (go see them!).This past weekend SDP traveled to Silver Gate, MT and Casper, WY. Talk about inspiration on a whole different level! Silver Gate was one of the most beautiful, and least inhabited, places we have ever been. We were there to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Log Cabin Cafe and we even had the chance to play a show at an old saloon/brothel in town. People came by from nearby Cooke City and all around Montana, and everyone had a blast. We are trying to plan our next escape to Silver Gate as soon as possible!Afterwards we hit the highway for the Beartrap Music Festival in Casper, WY. The fest takes place in a sweet spot they call the Meadow on Casper Mountain. You could pretty much see the whole town of Casper and half of Wyoming from that mountain! Again, we had no idea what we were in for at Beartrap. Before our set we listened to a great show by Town Mountain (NC boys!) and had a quick video interview and green room performance with the local radio station. We were getting pretty excited with all the great energy around us and our set was amazing! The band really killed it and we got the crowd on their dancing shoes early. After the set I met so many music lovers and quickly realized that we would definitely be coming back to Casper! Festival goers were having a great time and all of the bands were top notch (The Infamous Stringdusters and Steve Earle played later in the day). Below are links to some of the coverage at Beartrap, photos and videos (one of our favorite Neil Young tunes!).http://beartrapsummerfestival.com/screen-door-porch-performs-at-beartrap-summer-festival-2012-photos/http://beartrapsummerfestival.com/screen-door-porch-green-room-performance-video/What a summer this has been!
